(KR) 정체성을 숨기기 위해서 가면으로 얼굴을 가린다. 그 가면은 이미 자기 자신의 얼굴이 아님에도 불구하고 완벽하지 않기 때문에, 다시 그 위에 새로운 분장을 한다. 어느 순간 가면은 진짜 얼굴이 되고, 본래의 얼굴은 사라진다. 어떤 얼굴이 진짜 얼굴인지는 더는 중요하지 않다. 완전해지기 위해서 했던 분장을 지워도 남겨지는 것은 본래의 얼굴이 아닌 만들어진 얼굴이다.
(ENG) Everyone has a mask that should be worn in public. All people hide their real faces behind their masks. It is a very old and worldwide belief that the mask is the symbol of deception and that’s why we have to take off our mask. But is there any real face behind our masks if we took the mask off? Could it be that there is no original face at all? But it could also be that the mask we wear now has already become our own face.
When we think of the word ‘wash off’, we imagine a process in which a disguise or a lie is removed and something pure and true, the actual real figure is found again. Even though the performer washes the paint off of ‘her face’, the mask can still be seen as her original face. It is no longer important whether a true face is found.
(DE) Jeder hat eine Maske, die in der öffentlichen Situation getragen werden soll. Alle Menschen verstecken ihre wahren Gesichter hinter ihren Masken. Es ist ein sehr alter und weltweiter Glaube, dass die Maske das Symbol der Täuschung ist und dass man auf diesem Grund seine Maske ablegen muss. Gibt es aber überhaupt ein wahres Gesicht dahinter, wenn man die Maske absetzen würde? Könnte es sein, dass überhaupt keine ursprüngliche Figur existiert? Es könnte aber auch sein, dass die Maske, die man jetzt trägt, längst das eigene Gesicht geworden ist.
Wenn man an das Wort ‘Abwaschen’ denkt, stellt man sich einen Prozess vor, bei dem etwas Lügenhaftes oder Verhüllendes beseitigt und etwas Reines und Wahres wiedergefunden wird. Obgleich der Performer die Farbe von 'seinem Gesicht' abwäscht, kann man immer noch die Maske als sein originales Gesicht sehen. Es ist nicht mehr wichtig, ob ein wahres Gesicht gefunden wird.
